The GT100Miler gravel race, held on Saturday, 27 July, in the south of Johannesburg, kicked off the 3-race “In The Sticks Gravel Series” with thrilling performances. Team Honeycomb Pro Cycling showcased their dominance as teammates Jaco Van Dyk and Marc Pritzen secured a one-two finish, crossing the finish line arm in arm.
Van Dyk completed the grueling 160km race in an impressive 04:29:50, with Pritzen just a second behind at 04:29:51. The duo’s synchronised finish highlighted their teamwork and strategy, setting a high standard for the remaining races in the series. Kent Main claimed the third spot, crossing the line in 04:30:36, followed by Wessel Botha and Marco Joubert who finished in 04:33:57 and 04:34:11 respectively.
In the women’s category, Hayley Preen of Freewheel Cycology emerged victorious with a powerful solo attack 45km into the race, shortly after the Queen of The Mountains segment. Preen finished with a time of 05:31:42, leaving her competitors trailing behind. Danielle Strydom and Juanita Mackenzie both finished in 05:44:31, with Taneal Otto and Lisa Bone close behind at 05:44:32 and 05:44:33 respectively.
The GT100Miler has set an exciting precedent for the series, with the next race eagerly anticipated by competitors and spectators alike.
