Lidl-Trek is excited to announce a significant addition to its women’s cycling team: Dutch Time Trial Champion Riejanne Markus, who will be racing with the team through 2027. Markus, one of the Netherlands’ top cycling talents, brings a wealth of experience and success to Lidl-Trek, having secured 11 professional victories over her career. Her impressive achievements include three national titles—two in the time trial and one in the road race—and standout performances in the world’s most prestigious Classics and Grand Tours. This season, Markus showcased her exceptional skills by finishing second overall in the Vuelta a España.
Markus Looks Forward to New Challenges with Lidl-Trek
“I couldn’t be more excited to join Lidl-Trek,” Markus said. “For years, I’ve admired their pioneering role in women’s cycling, providing the same level of support as their men’s team. This commitment has inspired me deeply. I’m drawn to well-organized teams, and Lidl-Trek has an outstanding reputation. The atmosphere among the riders and staff is fantastic, and I’m eager to be a part of it.”
Markus is particularly looking forward to competing on new equipment: “Trek’s world-class bikes, especially their aerodynamic, lightweight road bikes and exceptional time trial bikes, are a big reason why I decided to join. I have ambitious goals for the upcoming seasons, including targeting General Classification in stage races and excelling in time trials. The European and World TT Championships are major objectives, along with key races like the Tour de France, Vuelta a España, and hilly classics like Strade Bianche and Liège-Bastogne-Liège, which suit my strengths.”
Lidl-Trek’s Enthusiastic Welcome
Lidl-Trek General Manager Luca Guercilena expressed his excitement about Markus joining the team, highlighting her potential and alignment with the team’s ambitions:
“Riejanne has proven herself to be a force in both one-day and stage races, and she’s made significant progress in recent seasons. Her ambition perfectly matches our team’s drive, and we’re confident that with Lidl-Trek, she’ll continue to excel. Our investments in aerodynamics will provide her with the tools she needs to dominate time trials.
“Her strengths in climbing and time-trialling will enhance our team’s overall competitiveness, allowing us to pursue success across various races. Bringing Riejanne into Lidl-Trek strengthens our roster and positions us for a thrilling season ahead.”
With Markus on board, Lidl-Trek is poised for an exciting season, continuing to build strength and depth in women’s cycling.
